Perspectives – 20 Years of a Changing Berlin

In 2009, a red info box will move around the capital. Marked by an unmissable red arrow, during the theme year, it will draw attention to changes in the city since the fall of the Wall at different locations. Helmut Newton: Sumo

SUMO is the possibly the biggest ever photography book project. Ten years ago Taschen published a limited run of 10,000 books signed by Helmut Newton. This display shows all 394 photographs. There is also a smaller and revised version of the book for the regular book market. Exhibition is open Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 to 18:00 with late opening on Thursday until 22:00. The Giants Arrive

Berliner Festspiele and the legendary French street theatre company "Royal de Luxe" perform an open-air theatre spectacle commemorating the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. Two 15m high marionettes: Little Giantess and Big Giant tell the story of a reunion after years of separation. At significant Berlin sites they will enthuse millions of people and resurrect the overwhelming emotions of 1989. This open air event is free of charge and takes place daily from approx. 10:00 to 12:00 and 15:00 to 18:00. See website for details of the route.

The Giants Arrive

Theatre spectacle in celebration of the 20th Anniversary of the Fall of the Berlin Wall with the legendary French street theatre Royal de Luxe. Giant puppets, Little Giantess and Big Giant, measuring up to 15 metres in height, will walk the streets of Berlin: to tell the story of a reunion after years of separation. Their central route includes a walk from the Rotes Rathaus along Unter den Linden to Bebelplatz, the Lustgarten to Hauptbahnhof, along Strasse des 17. Junis to Pariser Platz and the Brandenburg Gate.
