Questions/Recommendations: Moving to Berlin

Open Spaces writes in General

We're figuring out our move from the US to Berlin. I have dual citizenship (German) and my wife is American, but we have never lived abroad. We have researched about health insurance, legal and residence permits and papers and finding apartments. What are some general suggestions you may have concerning these topics and any others, and also looking for employment for native English speakers w/very limited German?

Even if your German is limited now, there are so many places you can learn German and learning it whilst living in the country will accelerate your standard pretty fast. This means you won't necessarily be restricted to finding work / casual work just because you don't speak the language and you can focus on looking for a better paid job in a sector where you already have experience. Finding apartments is relatively easy as long as you have your permits to be in the country and enough money to cover a deposit - usually 3 months rent plus the first month. Health insurance - you could get cover in the US for the initial part of your stay and then find a German provider once you've moved here.
