  • Allierten Museum

    Situated in the former US military section, this museum houses an exhibition of military memorabilia, everyday objects, film and photographs explaining life during the Cold War. Open 10:00 to 18:00, closed Wednesdays. At Clayallee 135, Berlin-Zehlendorf.

  • Altes Museum

    Collections of portraits and old masters as well as Egyptian artefacts. Open Monday to Sunday from 10:00-18:00, Thursday until 22:00. At Bodestrasse 1-3, 10178 Berlin-Mitte.

  • Bauhaus Archiv

    Paintings and sculptures by Paul Klee, Kandinsky, van Doesburg, Laszlo Moholy-Nagy and other exponents of the Bauhaus school of art. Open Wednesday to Monday 10:00-17:00. At Klingelhoeferstrasse 14, Berlin-Tiergarten.

  • Brandenburg Gate

    This neo-classical strucure is Berlin's most famous monument. Built over 200 years ago it now stands as a symbol of the reunification.

  • Broehan-Museum

    This late neo-classical building houses a collection of Art Nouveau, Art Deco objects and Secessionist paintings. Furniture, glasswork and porcelain also on display. Open Tuesday to Sunday 10:00-18:00. At Schlossstrasse 1a, Berlin-Charlottenburg.

  • Bruecke Museum

    Collection of German Expressionist paintings linked to the Die Bruecke group housed in a Bauhaus style building. Open from 11:00-17:00 every day except Tuesday at Bussardsteig 9, Berlin-Dahlem.

  • Checkpoint Charlie

    Probably one of the most famous border crossing points. All that remains is a watchtower that houses a museum documenting the history of the Berlin wall, through films, texts and photos. Open from 09:00-22:00 every day. Friedrichstrasse 43-45, Berlin.

  • Ethnological Museum

    The Ethnologisches Museum collections include objects from Asia, Europe, the Islamic world, North America and Africa. There is also a children's museum for 5-12 year olds and a museum for the blind. Situated at Lansstrasse 8, 14195 Berlin-Dahlem.

  • Filmmuseum Berlin

    The history of film from silent movies to the latest sci-fi production. Special emphasis on German films of the 1920s, also unique collection of Marlene Dietrich's personal effects. At Potsdamer Strasse 2, 10785 Berlin-Tiergarten.

  • Friedrichswerder Church

    Neo-Gothic church designed by Karl Friedrich Schinkel and housing sculptures from the early 19th century. Highlights include Johann Gottfried Schadow's original plaster model of the Prussian princesses. At Werderscher Markt, 10117 Berlin-Mitte.

  • Gemaldegalerie - Old Master Paintings

    European art collection from the 13th to 18th centuries including works by van Eyck, Bruegel, Durer, Raphael, Tizian, Caravaggio, Rubens, Vermeer and Rembrandt. At Matthaikirchplatz 4/6, 10785 Berlin-Tiergarten.

  • German Museum of Technology

    Demonstrations and interactive activities as well as special events and exhibitions. Trebbiner Str. 9, 10963 Berlin-Kreuzberg.

  • Hamburger Bahnhof

    Art collection belonging to Friedrich Christian Flick including over 2000 works by approximately 150 artists. At Invalidenstrasse 50-51, 10557 Berlin-Tiergarten.

  • Haus der Wannsee-Konferenz

    'The final solution' was decided by Adolf Eichmann and the SS at this luxury villa. Since 1992, it has been a museum and place of remembrance, with exhibitions about the Holocaust. Open daily 10:00-18:00. Am Grossen Wannsee 56-58, Berlin-Zehlendorf.

  • Helmut Newton Foundation

    Photography museum presenting over a thousand photos by Helmut Newton and his wife June. Also a number of temporary exhibitions with works by other artists and photographers. Closed Mondays. Jebensstrasse 2, 10623 Berlin-Charlottenburg.

  • Holocaust Memorial

    Officially called the Monument to the Murdered Jews in Europe, the memorial can be visited at any time. Located near the Brandenburg Gate.

  • Hugenottenmuseum

    Housed inside the French Cathedral, this museum details the history of the Huguenot community in France and Brandenburg. Open Tuesday to Saturday 12:00-17:00. At Gendarmenmarkt 6, Berlin-Mitte.

  • Jewish Museum

    The Judisches Museum has over 3000 m2 of exhibition space covering German-Jewish life over the last 2000 years as well as Jewish history and art. At Lindenstrasse 9-14, 10969 Berlin.

  • Monument to Soviet Soldiers

    Huge monument commemorating over 300,000 Soviet soldiers who died during the battle for Berlin in World War II. Also a cemetery for 2500 Soviet casualties. At Strasse des 17 Juni, Berlin-Tiergarten.

  • Museum for German History / Deutsches Historisches Museum

    Berlin's most significant Baroque building housing a permanent exhibition on German history. Guided tours and audio tours in English. Open daily from 10:00-18:00. At Unter den Linden 2, 10117 Berlin-Mitte.

  • Museum of Decorative Arts

    The Kunstgewerbemuseum has many different crafts and decorative arts on exhibition. Closed Mondays. At Kulturforum Potsdamer Platz and Schloss Kopenick (Kopenick Palace).

  • Museum of European Cultures

    The Museum Europaischer Kulturen hosts temporary exhibitions that reflect European culture from the 18th century to the modern day. Closed Mondays. Lansstr. 8, 14195 Berlin-Dahlem.

  • Museum of Musical Instruments

    Over 750 instruments in a collection dating from 1888. Demonstrations of a 1929 Wurlitzer. At Tiergartenstrasse 1, Berlin-Tiergarten.

  • Museum of Post and Telecommunications

    Founded in 1872, the world's oldest post office museum houses exhibits illustrating the history of postal and telecommunications services. At Leipziger Strasse 16, Berlin-Mitte.

  • Museumsdorf Dueppel

    Reconstructed medieval village on the site of a 13th century settlement, displaying traditional crafts and breeds of pigs and sheep. At Clauerstrasse 11, Berlin-Zehlendorf.

  • Natural History Museum/Museum fuer Naturkunde

    One of the largest natural history museums in the world, with over 60 million exhibits including the world's largest original dinosaur skeleton. Open Tuesday to Friday 09:30-18:00, Saturday-Sunday 10:00-18:00. At Invalidenstrasse 43, Berlin-Tiergarten.

  • Neues Museum

    Home to the Egyptian museum and papyrus collection as well as the museum of prehistory and early history. At Bodestr. 1-3, 10178 Berlin.

  • New National Gallery

    The Neue Nationalgalerie houses a collection of modern art from the 20th century, as well as late 19th century artists such as Munch. Cubism, Expressionism, Bauhaus and Surrealism are represented here. Potsdamer Strasse 50, 10785 Berlin-Tiergarten.

  • Old National Gallery

    The Alte Nationalgalerie has collections of 19th century sculptures and paintings and is part of Berlin's Museum Island, a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site. Open Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 to 18:00 (22:00 on Thursdays) Bodestrasse 1-3, 10178 Berlin

  • Pergamon Museum

    Home to three independent collections: the museum of Antiquities, the museum of Islamic Art and the Museum of near Eastern Antiquities. Am Kupfergraben 5, 10117 Berlin.

  • Sammlung Berggruen

    Impressive collection of paintings, drawings and gouaches by Picasso, as well as over 20 works by Paul Klee. At Schlossstrasse 1, Berlin-Charlottenburg.

  • Schloss Charlottenburg

    Originally intended as a summer home for Sophie Charlotte, this stunning palace houses a collection of richly decorated interiors unrivalled in Berlin. Spandauer Damm 10-22, 14059 Berlin-Charlottenburg.

  • Stasi Museum

    Originally the headquarters of the Stasi, this building houses photographs and documents depicting the activities of the East German secret service. Open Monday to Friday 11:00-18:00, Saturday, Sunday 12:00-18:00. Ruschestrasse 103, Berlin-Lichtenberg.

  • The Bode Museum

    One of the largest numismatic collections with over 500,000 objects including coins from Greece, Ancient Rome, European coins from the Middle Ages onwards and Oriental-Islamic coins. Am Kupfergraben 1, 10178 Berlin.

  • The Reichstag

    Neo-Renaissance building, home of the German Parliament since re-unification. New dome added in 1999 by Sir Norman Foster. At Platz der Republik, Berlin-Tiergarten.

  • Topographie des Terrors

    Once the headquarters of the Gestapo, SS and Security Service. Now has exhibitions in cellars which were once torture cells documenting Nazi crimes. At Stresemannstrasse 110, Berlin-Mitte.

  • Zille Museum

    Museum devoted to Heinrich Zille whose famous comic sketches captured life in Berlin around the turn of the 20th century. The museum is in the historic Nikolai Viertel. Open daily from 11.00 to 18.00. At Propststr. 11, 10178 Berlin-Mitte.
